General Security Advice & tips ...

Security was shown to be the most significant factor in whether a household experienced a burglary or not. Households with no security have been shown to be far more likely to become victims.

Here are a few tips on what you can do to be more secure ....

- Close and lock all doors and windows. Still do this even if you’re only leaving your home for a few minutes.

- Make sure the side and back gates (if you have them) are locked.

- Lock your shed and garage.

- Do not keep your valuables in sight of windows or doors. Most burglars are opportunists and if something of value is visible will be much more likely to target your home.

- No keys within easy reach of a letter box. Criminals have been known to use a coat hanger etc through a letter box to snare car keys. So you could have your vehicle stolen within anyone ever gaining entry to your home.

- Invest in a burglar alarm.

Most of this advice is common sense, but a staggering number of people don't do the basics. Being reminded of them is fundamental to home security.
